
Kajal (Kaj) Sachdev-Gande is broadly interested in child abuse pediatrics and physical abuse prevention and recognition. She is interested in mitigation of social risk factors in pediatric primary care as a mechanism for abuse prevention. She recognizes that racial and ethnic inequities contribute to lower social health of children and families and thus, increases risk of abuse. Her work studies screening for social risk factors during pediatric well child visits and the relationship between risk mitigation and decreased risk of physical abuse. She is interested in strengthening the relationship between medical providers and existing community resources and networks to support patients’ social health. She has additional research interests focusing on minimizing racial bias in physical abuse recognition through an objective approach utilizing diffuse light reflectance spectrometry to differentiate bruises from mimics. Her research interests span general pediatrics, child abuse pediatrics, legal psychology, and medical legal studies.
