PhD Student, Anthropology

Robyn Yzelman has been researching the impacts of agricultural extractivism on human and more-than-human landscapes in the Bolivian Amazon since 2017. Her current project traces historical and political constructions of race and indigeneity in the Bolivian Amazon that have shaped contemporary social and economic land use relations and created lasting structural inequities. This research also examines how lowland indigenous communities have mobilized environmental activism against extractivism carried out by an ‘indigenous state,’ challenging dominant meanings of indigenous citizenship in Bolivia.
