Alex Mouw

Doctoral Candidate, English | Lynne Cooper Harvey Fellow in American Culture Studies

Alex Mouw studies modern and contemporary U.S. literature. His dissertation explicates how U.S. poets after 1945 have engaged the discipline of history, a field which they found tantalizing, threatening, and enviably prestigious all at once. To that end, he engages the racial dynamics of lyric, American exceptionalism, and historical reckoning in the work of both African American and white poets.
