Andre’A Roper is broadly interested in questions of ethics and education in African American literature, particularly the impact of humanitarianism on education systems and Black youth. Her work explores how novelists portray domestic and international service, the transmediation of those stories into popular and political discourse, and how African American authors theorize the ethics of humanitarianism in their texts. She also considers how the legacy of Christian missions and white saviorism continues to shape the values, service models, and marketing and recruitment strategies of nonprofit organizations today.
