I am a historian of migration, empire, and the human sciences in twentieth-century Britain, France, and German-speaking Europe. My current research explores the wide-ranging impact of population thought on the history and administration of forced displacement. In focusing on the international governance of mid-century refugees, it highlights the fundamental reliance of refugee statistics on ethnic and racial classifications.
