Selin Toprakkiran is broadly interested in social identity and intergroup processes, particularly in the context of stereotypes and prejudice. Her work has looked at how identifying with the broader community might lead to lower prejudice between international and domestic students, and Republicans and Democrats. Her current work aims at identifying perceptions regarding different ethnic and national groups in the US, including implicit and explicit bias, stereotypes such as status and foreignness, and how these might be moderated by factors such as political orientation.
