Dr. Banks’ research aims to improve racial equity in the research, treatment, and prevention of substance use and related behavioral health outcomes, with a focus on Black Americans. She examines the impact of differential racialization and racism-related stress on the substance use at individual, interpersonal, and structural levels, with the goal of illuminating and mitigating race-related social determinants of addiction.
