Graduate Student, Romance Languages and Literatures/Hispanic Studies

Francisco (Paco) Tijerina is currently interested in extractivism practices in Latin America, the effects they have upon bodies (human and non-human), and how they are depicted through contemporary literature. As it is commonly known, the act of extraction mainly occurs in the periphery, where most of indigenous communities are located, provoking a particular set of implications for the self-determination of these groups. As there is some interdisciplinary inputs to take into account in the juncture of literature and extractivism, Paco tends to include perspectives from History, Sociology, and Anthropology to broad up his research.
