Inhaler nonadherence is a common problem that has been estimated to account for approximately 60% of all asthma-related hospitalizations. Based on the recent Equity Indicators Project, which resulted from the Ferguson Commission call to action, emergency room visits for asthma-related complications is the number one greatest healthcare disparity in St. Louis. Our research team is working with the St. Louis community to better understand inhaler non-adherence in lower socioeconomic status communities and evaluate strategies to improve adherence and lessen asthma-related morbidity.
