JJ Degner-Lopez is interested in questions of race and/ or ethnicity that are generated by material culture. Her research examines the notion of hybridity as it pertains to mobile objects circulated along 17th century trade routes, especially the trade and reception of Chinese export porcelain within colonial Latin America. She is broadly interested in racial logics of the archive and issues of identity and representation within institutional frameworks.
