Postdoctoral Research Associate, Program in Occupational Therapy

Lindsay Spell holds a Clinical Doctorate of Occupational Therapy from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Her areas of interest include investigating the occupational impact of chronic disease in adolescent and youth populations, studying the role of occupational therapy (OT) in community practice with a focus in urban and suburban contexts, and identifying and remediating environmental factors that negatively impact participation for youth with asthma. Lindsay has conducted research under the mentorship of Dr. Kelly Harris PhD, CCC-SLP in the Health Equity, Opportunity, and Education (HOPE) Lab. The HOPE Lab’s mission is to conduct community-engaged, people-centered, justice-oriented research to advance health and educational equity, improve opportunity, and implement change in our communities. Lindsay’s research focuses on the role of OT practitioners in asthma care, the usability of an occupation-based asthma home assessment, and the impact of asthma on participation. She has experience in qualitative and quantitative data collection, management, and analysis, facilitating partnerships between community and university-based stakeholders, and engaging in a variety of dissemination methods.
