Portia Nartey is interested in designing and testing culturally responsive economic empowerment interventions to support adolescent girls and women in low-resourced communities, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa and Black America. Specifically, her work addresses the unique challenges faced by these groups, including poverty, restrictive gender norms, and limited access to resources, which intersect with race and ethnicity to influence socioeconomic outcomes among these racial minority groups. Portia has published and worked extensively with outstanding scholars from the fields of poverty reduction, African-centered theory, implementation science, public health and social work.
