Being a native of Puerto Rico, I strongly identify as Hispanic and am fluent in English and Spanish. Where I’m from has definitely helped me become a more culturally competent person and professional. It has given me the opportunity to interact with patients of all different cultural backgrounds and be successful because there is always a connection to be made. Being bilingual and Hispanic is not only a way to identify me, but it also makes me who I am. My culture represents a set of core values that will only benefit me in connecting with different cultures and expanding my knowledge and will help me provide better quality care in the future.
Siendo nativo de Puerto Rico, me identifico fuertemente como hispano y hablo inglés y español con fluidez. El lugar de donde vengo definitivamente me ha ayudado a convertirme en una persona y un profesional culturalmente más competente. Me ha dado la oportunidad de interactuar con pacientes de diferentes orígenes culturales y tener éxito porque siempre hay una conexión que hacer. Ser bilingüe e hispano no solo es una forma de identificarme, sino que también me hace ser quien soy.
