Ryan Hung’s academic interests lie in global performance cultures; race, ethnicity, and performance; popular performance forms; global film and media cultures; and intercultural performance. More specifically, he will look to investigate African-American performance and popular entertainment as it pertains to the performance canon and cultural simulacra of America, the transnational influence of African-American popular entertainment, intercultural connections fostered by hip hop between African and East Asian diasporic performances, and comparative study of East Asian performance cultures.
