Shauntal is a social work doctoral student and T32 NIMH predoctoral fellow broadly interested in K-12 school based mental health interventions and policy for LGBTQIA+ youth. Their work is focused on understanding how queer adolescent sense of belonging and identity affirmation vary by racial and ethnic minority groups and the contextual factor of rurality. Shauntal is passionate about addressing mental health disparities among stigmatized youth through an educational lens rooted in social justice. They aim to amplify youth voices and experiences through community-based participatory research to inform both micro and macro-level mental health service implementation strategies.
