Tasman Rosenfeld studies the factors that shape the evolutionary fates of organisms (most often reptiles and amphibians). Among these factors are human-environment interactions such as land-use changes, climate change, collection of species for food, industry, or science, etc. Tasman applies this work in the context of biodiversity conservation with a focus on the neotropics. In 2023, he co-founded HonduHerp, an NGO made up of Honduran and American biologists, naturalists, and foresters dedicated to conserving the amphibians and reptiles of Honduras. A critical component of this work involves working with indigenous and campesino communities to preserve, support, and in some cases revitalize, traditional land use practices that sustain healthy landscapes for both people and wildlife. He is also interested in using HonduHerp as a vehicle for exploring anti-colonial means of conserving nature across borders.
